Bio
My name is Raven George, and I’m a magical realist painter working in oil, ink, and graphite. I believe that overcoming hardship requires us to evolve through it, releasing what no longer serves us to find a new way of being. Those around me describe me as a beautiful light because I choose to see positive possibilities in people and environments. I’ve experienced emotional trauma, sexual abuse, grief, and self-betrayal from giving away power I never knew I possessed. I’ve learned that the only way to overcome obstacles truly is to evolve through them. In other words, to die. Kill what’s necessary and find life in it. There’s something beautiful about doing so while living, cognizant enough to choose love, beauty, and wisdom from pain.
My work explores how we reconnect with ourselves by confronting pain, releasing what no longer serves us, and transforming loss into new life. Through emotional presence, material honesty, and magical realism, my practice examines this process of transformation. Oil pastels, ink, and graphite guide this work because each material exposes something real. Ink bleeds without an apology. Oil refuses to be rushed. The pencil reveals every moment of doubt. Visually, my work blends careful lines with soft, dissolving edges, layered transparencies, and marks that feel vulnerable and deliberate. These qualities mirror the tension between what we show, what we hide, and what we have not yet faced. Through these mediums, I explore emotional intimacy, identity, and the point where the body meets the spirit, revealing the soul as a dimension of life beyond the visible body.Artist CV
